Sony PS3 Cannot Install Linux

by Johan Young

Those who already have older version of the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) and within it is installed Linux, they should read this description: the newest update firmware can damage the Linux. According to Sony, they will release the latest PS3 firmware version of 3.21 with one goal, eliminating the option "Other OS" which is currently available on all PS3 versions of the old. This option allows PS3 owners to be able to install other operating systems, such as Linux. Sony said the decision to eliminate the option "Other OS" is based on security issues. Sony believes, by updating the latest firmware, users will have a more secure system. PS3 owners who are already using Other OS options and install the operating system will lose all data, as well as the operating system after updating the firmware. To prevent data loss it is strongly advised to the PS3 users to back up all data stored. Although Sony wants PS3 owners to download the firmware but it is not a compulsion. Unfortunately the PS3 users who do not install the firmware will not be able to access the PlayStation Network and play a game or Blu-ray movies media that requires the new firmware. Sony decision like this is actually not too surprising. When they shipped the PS3 Slim, in the latest version of the PS3 was no longer an option "Other OS". The absence of these features has been expected to occur in the PS3 version of the old. A lot of PS3 users who have installed Linux are happy with the performance of their PS3, so it is very unfortunate that this feature is removed.
